What are PRP Treatments?
PRP treatments are an autologous treatment. That means we take cells from your own body and use them to stimulate hair regrowth! This treatment specifically uses red blood cell platelets in concentrated plasma. These platelets are injected into the scalp, where they’re activated by the body and release growth factors. This stimulates CD34 stem cells in the skin and induces angiogenesis (new blood vessel development). These new blood vessels surround hair follicles, causing dormant hair follicles to become active once again!
How Long Does PRP Take to Work?
Hair restoration from PRP is usually very dramatic. Most patients see results in just 3-6 months after PRP treatments. Some patients may need retreatment in 3-6 months, to re-stimulate hair growth. We’ll consult with you about the nature and severity of your hair loss to help determine an estimated timeline for hair regrowth and to recommend the right number and interval of PRP treatments.
PRP to Combat Androgenic Alopecia
Hair loss associated with Androgenic Alopecia is a genetic condition, which decreases blood supply to your hair follicles due to the presence of a hormone (DHT). DHT starves the hair follicle of the nutrients it needs to produce a thick, full and healthy hair.
PRP treatments are effective at restoring hair loss from Androgenic Alopecia because they directly stimulate the follicle and restore the red blood cells supporting it. PRP acts as a “fertilizer” for the follicle, which reverses the negative effects of DHT.
